Food challenges and eating competitions have been increasing in popularity in recent years. The Travel Channel's hit show Man v. Food first aired in 2008 and drew worldwide attention to restaurant food challenges. I have been a big fan of the show for many years and often wondered, what was one of the oldest food challenges ever?
A writer from Dongola, Illinois reported that in 1867, Dr. Henry Harmes sat down and consumed five dozen raw eggs in one sitting. The most interesting part is that this was completed in under a half-hour. Even if it was five dozen cooked eggs, this would still not be an easy challenge.
Has this been attempted since then?
Similar challenges involving raw eggs have been attempted on the internet, particularly on YouTube. Kevin "L.A. Beast" Strahle attempted to take down one-hundred raw eggs in 2017. There have been many others attempting similar challenges involving raw eggs.
While it's an interesting feat and impressive in my opinion, if you're looking to take on a food challenge, you should take precautions and do proper research for any type of food challenge, including raw ones.
This begs the question, how many food challenges were attempted and completed but were never recorded or written about?
